Apprentice Case Study: Ernesto Martin

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?

I saw the apprenticeship as an opportunity to progress in my career. I have been working in customer service for some years now and I can say that the apprenticeship helped me to be more confident approaching my everyday tasks at work.

Please describe your experience..

It has been really challenging at times, you need to complete your apprenticeship whilst working, however after finishing it, I have to say that I am missing those busy days with loads of work to do plus the assignments. I have also been really lucky as I had a really good assessor, very committed, encouraging me all the time to pursue new ways of approaching things.

How has your apprenticeship helped you to progress in your career?

The apprenticeship has helped me to gain new competencies within a new role. I also feel more confident on how to deal with customers’ queries.

What do you feel are the advantages of doing an apprenticeship over other training or education?

In my opinion, the main advantage of doing an apprenticeship is that you can put in practice everything that you are learning with the assignments, and you can do it straight away as you are already working. I also have a degree, and complimenting my education with the apprenticeship could help me progress faster in my career. The apprenticeship allows you to learn theories which can be extrapolated to many things in life. I definitely see an apprenticeship a good way to have a new challenge and a brighter future.
